![]() The game starts with Sally hanging up missing posters for Emily in the "real" world, but she is soon chased by some bullies into a twisted, Silent Hill-style version of her hometown, complete with giant eyeballs and deadly monsters. ![]() Players explore Gylt's visually-striking world as a young girl named Sally who is looking for her missing cousin Emily. All things considered, Gylt is quite easily the best-looking and most-polished title from Tequila Works to date. Gylt looks and runs great, with a smooth frame rate that's only ever undermined by the Stadia service itself if players decide to play on wi-fi instead of a wired connection. Gylt's art style, graphics, and lighting all come together to showcase one of Stadia's most visually impressive games. Gylt's art style also lends itself well to the "horror for kids" atmosphere it cultivates, using cartoonish visuals instead of realistic graphics. It still has a few good jump scares, but otherwise it's fairly tame for the genre. Gylt gives off a real Stranger Things vibe in that it is certainly a horror game, but it's not so overly scary that it would turn away kids or those who typically can't handle horror games. But as history has shown us, a video game platform needs strong exclusive games to reel in an audience. 21 out of the 22 Stadia launch games have been available on other platforms for months if not years, though there is one exclusive game available for Stadia Founder's Edition purchasers, and that is the stealth-horror game Gylt from Tequila Works. GYLT is currently available on Google Stadia and will be released on other platforms in 2023.Google Stadia represents Google's attempt to break into the triple-A video game industry, giving players the option to stream blockbuster hits like Red Dead Redemption 2, Destiny 2, and Mortal Kombat 11 to basically any device that can get an Internet connection. This uncertainty about the longevity of Google Stadia may have ironically contributed to its downfall. The company has a reputation for starting and then canceling even popular services, many of them after only a few years in operation. When Google launched Stadia in 2019, the cloud gaming service was met with skepticism on many fronts. Both IO Interactive and Ubisoft have stated that they are working to bring Stadia users’ games to PC and other platforms, hopefully with their progress intact. Some titles require a huge time investment and gameplay milestones, and the prospect of losing all of that hard work has left a lot of gamers very unhappy. However, there are still a few titles that may no longer be accessible once the service officially shuts down, including PixelJunk Raiders, Outcasters, Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle, and Hello Engineer from tinyBuild the developer of Hello Neighbor.Įven though Google is offering full refunds for all Stadia games, in-game purchases, and hardware, that still leaves many players in a tough spot. ![]() Get Packed: Fully Loaded was one of the highest rated games on Stadia when it released in 2020 and has since seen success on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Other titles that released as Google Stadia exclusives have already launched on other platforms. The blurb says, “We’ve been working on it for a long time and it’s finally time to make it official.” Before the game even launched, Google had already stated that GYLT would only be a timed exclusive on the platform, so this is not entirely unexpected. A brief post on the developer’s official website specified that the horror title will be making the move to other platforms in 2023, though the exact date and platforms have not yet been revealed. ![]() RELATED: IO Interactive Looking Into Solutions for Hitman Players on StadiaIn a tweet posted soon after the announcement of Google Stadia’s shutdown, Tequila Works cofounder Raúl Rubio Munárriz shared that GYLT will not disappear with the service. ![]() Covering themes like bullying and childhood nightmares, the game puts players in the role of Sally, who is on a quest to track down her missing cousin Emily and delves into a creepy world populated by frightening creatures. GYLT was the first exclusive title released on Google Stadia and is an action-adventure game with puzzle and spooky elements. This announcement comes after Google revealed in September that Stadia will shut down on January 18, 2023, and many people expressed concern about games like GYLT that were either released solely on that platform or had Stadia exclusive features. Tequila Works has confirmed that its Stadia exclusive horror title GYLT will be coming to other platforms sometime next year. ![]()
